Summertime Fun

One of the best things about summer is getting back up into the mountains and hiking thru some beautiful areas to get to some high elevation waters. i absolutely love it, just not the way my body feels in the morning. i took jason out for a little jaunt over the weekend and here are some pics.

A Day With D and Drake

I would love to say it was a great day of fishing but it definitely wasn't. i mean its always great to get out on the water but as far as the fishing went it was crap, but you take the bad with the good. we fished the same piece that i had last weekend, last weekend was great but this time was no bueno. it didn't help that we were allowed access by one guy who told us if anyone gives you issues, give them my name, but when we ran into another land owner, he didn't care that we were given access by someone else and kicked us out. when we got back to my jeep we drove lower in the river to fish.we had worked up a little bit and were in some deeper, faster and bouldery waters when my foot slipped and down i went, unfortunately with $1500 of camera equipment around my neck. once i got back on my feet and looked at my camera dripping with water, i realized i no longer had my rod in my hand. when i looked down river i saw it tumbling down the current, i tried to make my way to it as fast as i could but then i disappeared. dbone and drake had gotten out of the river and ran down to try and cut it off but as i was standing on a big rock surveying the water, the rod tip all of a sudden rose to the top right out in front of my. that was lucky. i too

k my camera apart and left it in the jeep to dry and we pressed on with the day, with the fishing continuing to be unproductive. dont get me wrong, we didnt get skunked but it just didnt come close to living up to its reputation. we had to work extra hard for what we caught.

Small Streams Are Fun

Me and matt headed for some small waters. i had dries on my mind but of course i had a small box of streamers just in case. matt started with a dry/dropper set up and i chose to start with a small streamer, hoping that if the weather got nicer maybe the fish would start looking up. that never happened but i did eventually switch to a cicada pattern but only turned a fish or two, no hook ups. all of my fish were on a small streamer but matt managed fish on his cicada and different dropper patterns. it turned out to be a pretty damn good day.

Mice it's What's for Dinner

Went out the other night with mice on my mind. i havent fished mice but a couple of times in the past and have only landed one on one. got to the river and there was already lots of vegetation in the river so a dry fly of some sort was the way to go.  i fished from 630-930 and had probably 15 swirls and landed 3. i also had one come completely out of the water but miss my offering, was so kool to watch though. all in all it was a fun evening.

One Fish.....My Biggest Fish

Hooked up with jake on a stretch that i had hit a couple times earlier in the week. the water was slowly dropping and i had been getting into some decent action, nothing spectacular but decent. the day was slow for the most part, jake picked up 3 average fish but the 1 fish that i hooked up with all day was a year maker for me. jake had just landed a fish and i was up. a few casts into the run and this beast comes and porpoises on my streamer and it was on. at first i thought that was a big ass fish, then i though maybe it wasnt as big as i first thought. during the fight it cruised right in front of me and as i first thought, that was a big ass fish. jakes reactions confirmed that it was a big fish and bad thoughts entered my head as jake was trying to net it cause it was to big to fit into the net and kept flopping out so of course the whole time i was waiting for the streamer to let go. finally it was in the net and in my hands for some photos. it measured at an impressive 27 inches, i say impressive cause the average fish we take out of there is about 18 inches and my biggest in that river was 23 inches until that point.
