Fair Weather Fisherman

The river was full of them today, they were everywhere. it was kind of tough finding empty sections but we did manage and although the water was low and brown it fished pretty well. i mainly took pics of jake roping fish since he was putting it down. unfortunately some of the better holes just did not produce anything today but once the flows bump up a bit they will, in fact that whole piece should be nice.

Greed Will Get You Know Were

myself and jake took a short drive over to some water. there wasnt a cloud in the sky and other then first thing in the morning, it was a pretty warm day. early in the morning there was a bit of shelf ice, some anchor ice and a lot of chunks of ice floating down the river. after about an hour, it really started to warm up and roughly at that time the chunks stopped coming down. we fished two different sections and surprisingly the fishing sucked. jake caught one rainbow and i landed one brown. the brown was a trip because, when i landed it, it not only had my articulated streamer in it's mouth but it also had 2 chubs and 4 inches each and a baby brown, also about 4 inches. it was a greedy little fucker and paid for it. actually, it did swim away so at least it didn'

t pay with it's life.

A Cold Snap

Apparently were we went had a little cold snap, the lowest temps in about 3 weeks. it wasnt to bad when we showed up but there was a little anchor ice and some shelf ice. as usual me and dbone rigged up with streamers with high hopes of a stellar day, the river was a little disappointing. it was a great day for random photos and not much more. there were a few smaller fish caught and a couple of bigger fish lost.

The Clinic

Was able to hit some water with chris, it'd been over a year since we'd fished. we showed up and no fisherman to be had. i started, and finished, with streamers and chris rigged up with some nymphs. the day started slow for me but chris was on point. roping fish after fish. in one hole i just finally stopped fishing and just sat, watched and netted fish for chris. eventually chris did switch to streamers just to change things up, which he landed a few on that as well. he puts in so much time at the state capitol building lobbying for us fisherman that i was happy to see him on the water and catching some beautiful fish. the fish today were so buttery it reminded me of oct.

Out With the Kids

I actually got the kids out today for a few hours. jasmine or austin fly fish and actually neither one do much fishing at all but sometimes they just like to get out of the house for awhile. austin does have a spin rod but we couldnt find his spinners so i hooked him up with a single hook voodoo queen and some split shots so he could cast it. the water had colored up a little since the storm last night so that made fishing a little tougher and unfortunately he came away empty handed but he did have one swipe. every once in awhile jasmine would step in and in one hole on her first cast she did manage to land one fish. i was pretty stoked for her. i was also able to land a fish although i missed/lost 6 others.

Should've Stuck With my First Instinct

the morning started off extremely windy, gusts up to 50 mph, according to a weather report i got. it was very difficult to find my line while stripping cause the wind was playing with the slack line quite a bit, which i blame for me missing several fish. i had fished up quite a ways and noticed a nasty storm coming over the mountains and my first thought was that maybe i should start heading back to the jeep and calling it a day, but cause the fishing had been decent to that point, i trumped my first instinct and decided that i would keep going and hope that maybe the storm would miss me. bad move! the storm was on me in no time starting with some thunder and a little lightning accompanied with that wind and then the sleet. i briefly tried to take shelter under some small bushes and hoped it was soon pass, that was a pointless move, i was getting soaked, and soaked to the bone in a hurry. screw it, i realized it was here to stay and it proved to be a miserable long walk back to the jeep. wind and sleet blowing into me and stingy my face. it took me about 35-40 minutes to get back to the jeep and it took a long time to warm up as i was soaked to the core.

A Stellar Day

Today was definately my best day of the year. i moved a shit load of fish and landed a good number of them. i fished down with an olive/yellow combo which was really putting in some good work. on the way back up i switched to an orange yeti and it was able to hold its own as well.
