Another try

I went back to a small stream that the flows had dropped quite a bit, but i wanted to see if the green drakes were coming off yet. i didnt hardly see any bugs, including cicadas which i was also hoping to find coming off but none of those either. the flows were actually a little better then i was expecting and the weather was good but only managed 2 real small fish. 

Back to an old favorite

We headed out at o'dark thirty and got to the river just after sun up. we fished a usual stretch and although it started off really slow even though lots of fish were rising, i ended up trying an ant and quickly landed 2 fish. once we got to the top of the run the risers stepped up there game as we started seeing tons of swamped green drakes floating by. it almost seemed that once so many drakes were floating by things didnt fair overly well for us. we continued to get into fish but not like we expected with all the heads. we got into some good fish and eventually we decided to drive down to a lower stretch but there was a guide there with 2 clients and they were getting ready to get in. we drove down further to try some new water and it fished great for small fish, meaning 6-13 inchers. what a difference in sections. aside from the wind the weather was nice

Camping

Took austin on a short camping trip. i got in a little fishing while we were there. the temps were pretty damn toasty and a lot of green drakes coming off

 

Took the day off

To go fish of course. we were still looking for some green drakes although it was still maybe a tad early. we didnt see any but there were the usual suspects coming off little stones and a good amount of caddis. didnt see any heads so not sure what the fish were keying on, maybe emergers. the weather was great but the fishing was tough nut we did manage a few fish.

Hush hush creek

Usually the 1st sunday of June i head out with matt to some private access he has and usually we have a killer day. this year was not overly great, fishing wise but once again we came acrossed a killer drake hatch goin on. as we worked our way upstream the hatch got less prominent but the fishing picked up. partially im sure cause as the day went on it got warmer outside. unfortunately matt had prior obligations so we couldnt get in quite a full day but we still had fun and the day was long enough. we got into some fish, bugs and no rattlesnakes this time. 

 

Basically new

Havent seen this stretch in years and definitely not since mother nature kicked its ass a few years back. i hiked down from the parking lot a couple of miles, 2 or 3ish, to a point where any trail had disappeared and i was bush wacking. the last time i had fished it, cicadas worked well for me. i cycled thru a number of different dries but the fishing was non existent for quite awhile, then finally on an unsinkabeetle i caught my 1st fish. i ended up catching 4 or 5 fish but no cutthroat this time, all browns. in the past i had caught a few real nice cutthroat. the weather was great but the fishing was slow and at some point i ran into someone who had started fishing above me. the slow pools that used to be there but closer to the dam are still there and full of real nice browns but they were super spooky and i had no answer.

2 Rivers

I wanted to throw dries but i was heading out at dark so to kill time before it was more dry fly endusive i drove to a different river system and threw streamers for about 3 hours. moved a good number of fish but didnt really see anything big and just caught average fish. after i got back to the jeep and drove over the mountain to hopefully get into some fish on salmonflys. i got into a couple but only landed 1. the weather was great and it was a fun day

Plan B

Drove over to a small stream in hopes of some top feeding fish. there were only a small handful of bugs coming off and again no heads. on top of that the flows dropped what seems like about in 1/2 compared to the flows a few days earlier, which i think made the fish to damn spooky cause i only saw 1 and it was a spooked fish. after fishing thru a couple of sections i decided to drive over the mountain and hit another small river. the flows were still great but again the fish werent very active. i did land 1 on a salmonfly dry and moved a couple of others. it was a tough day of fishing 

Looking for some early drakes

Took the day off so went for a drive to some small water in search of Drakes and heads. there were still a few brown drakes, pmd's and some blue wings coming off but no green drakes yet. still managed a few fish.
