Another 1st time in years water

Never been a big fan of the big water but was curious to see how it would fish. went up there to get away from spawning browns so we went to target rainbows and cutts. as it turns out we did get into a few fish but most of them were whities. it was a nymphing game but i did switch to some emergers for some risers that i was seeing, did the best with what i had and it did not produce. switched to a streamer for a while but no bueno there either. it was a very unentertaining long day. . the weather cooperated so that was a plus

Not seen in about 6 years

Matt wanted to check out some water that we hadnt fished in years. a little stillwatrer piece that holds some, at least used to hold some, real nice fish.  it was pretty much a nymphing game consisting heavily on balance leeches. i threw a mouse for a minute but no love. we caught some tigers and cutts and the weather was quite nice once the sun got on the water.

Out to the res

We made the drive over to the res with hopes of mousing a few cutties up. we both got into a few but i think me catching a mouser on my 1st cast was the kiss of death. the rest of the day was pretty damn uneventful, with both of us maybe getting into a couple fish with streamers.

Unexpected

Mightuve seen our 1st redd, not 100% sure it wasnt a large clump of vegetation that let go off the bottom. my guess was a redd though. usually the river is still producing some solid fish right now but aside from matt catching 1 small tiger trout (never seen one in that section) we didnt catch shit. water is pretty damn low though. been a tough fall

A quick start

I chose to walk down stream this time cause in the past couple years ive found a really big fish in the same run 2 falls in a row. today was not the day. on my down to my starting point i stopped at a favorite run, proceeded to pull 5 fish out of it and 3 of them were 19 inches. i thought this is gonna be an epic day. that ist run was it for the day. caught one small fish in the rest of the river. great start but the beginning of an unproductive fish day

Had some family in town

Some of the Idaho family came down so and one of my nephews asked if id take him fishing, hes trying to learn fly fishing. Armed with streamers, he had his chances but his inexperience cost him and i just plain and simple missed/lost mine. maybe next time we wont come away empty handed.

Another drop in flows

The flows came back down again after the rains. the flows were down to a little over 100cfs which is pretty good in my opinion, but it was still a little more stained then id prefer. me and matt gave it a go for awhile to see how it would fish. we hardly saw anything although made got into a fish or two. its a bummer cause the previous 2 times i had fished that stretch it was money. was hoping for a repeat but that didnt work out.

Post rain

After a full day/night of heavy rains the moving stuff shot up, of course but the next day they were on the decline and at fishable levels. met matt at a spot that had fished pretty well for me the last 2 wknds so we chose to check it out again. unfortunately, even the flows were fishable the clarity i think fucked it up for us. the fish werent interested or it couldve been just that the fish were thrown off due to the sudden spike in flows, i think it was the clarity though. we fished another section as well where the flows came up but there was still a substantial amount of vegetation in the river. we got into a few fish there including i bigger fish that matt caught

Fish are turning

Was able to get out on my day off. the flows were perfect and the water was pretty clear, but not crystal. it was solid conditions. the fish were into it starting with my 1st run and it didnt slow down till i called it on account of lightning. made the long walk back and of course once i was back to my jeep the weather started to break. oh well it was a good morning

Another stillwater day

Got up way to bright and early so that me and matt could get to the res before the sun came up in hopes of a good mouse bite. it wasnt and once the sun came up i was already on streamers. matt stuck with mice a while longer but eventually switched. the fishing itself sucked really bad but with the low water and lots of vegetation on or near the surface, that did not help. was a nice sunrise though.

An hour

Had a family crisis so left the river after about an hour. the flows were up a little to around 150ish cfs and the water a little stain to it but was almost perfect. caught one fish and moved a handful of others. sucked to have to leave early but so be it

Low stillwater

Took one of my kids out to a semi local reservoir, mainly to get him out of the house. the water was pretty damn low and there was no shortage of action. we moved a lot of fish but there were very few eats. i caught 2 small splake and austin lost one fish on  a rapala. when then left and drove over to another reservoir that was about 40 minutes away from the one we were at, fished it for about an hour till his reel broke, then we called it and came home. it was good to get him out since he hardly leaves the house.

Fallish

Got to the river at the butt crack of dawn. the colors are slowly starting to change in the lower elevations and we even had some morning fog coming off on the river. matt did happen to catch a smallie which was only the 3rd ive ever seen out of that river. the fishing wasnt anything spectacular but its refreshing now that the summer heat is gone

A nice float

Went over to Pocatello to help my buddy dbone to make different flavors of dubbing to be packaged and sold, it was a pretty cool process to see. the next morning we drove over to Twin Falls and met up with dbones buddies and took a 14 mile float down the S.F. Snake. the fishing pretty much sucked as far as fish goes but we did move a few, caught plenty of 8-10 inch fish but at least the float was nice. a storm blew in during our last mile so at least the weather held off.
