A change of pace

Got an invite to fish some lesser known waters. me and matt made the 2 1/2 hr drive to hook up with logun and fish a small creek and some thawed out stillwater. didnt see many fish and the fishing was really slow but we managed to land a few real nice rainbows but it was a nymphing day so that was certainly a big change of pace. beautiful day and the company was good

A decent morning

For the 1st 1/2 of the stretch i didnt hardly see a single fish but i was high holed by 3 elk, including 2 small bulls. the snow has brought them down to the low country. about the 1/2 way point i changed streamers again and put on a single hook smaller white streamer and then it was constant action. ended up landing about a dozen but they were mostly the 16-17 inch fish. landed 1 that was 19 but it was still pretty beat up from the spawn. no shortage of wildlife today which is always cool.

A no fish morning

Me and matt went out for a little bit in the morning and fished a couple small sections looking for any takers. we did not find any but the water was up and a bit dirty as well so i feel that that was a big contributor.

Went back upriver

Hit the same section as i did last sunday. the water was pretty much the same but it was much colder friday morning then last week. i stood on the sidelines for a few minutes with my hands around my nuts trying to warm the fingers up some. it didnt take long though for the sun to dissipate the clouds and give me a little extra warmth.  only fished the short section but did get into a few fish. they are still holding their colors well there. usually they are a bit more chrome this time of year.

Slim pickins

With all the snowpack weve had this winter most sections of the river are running way higher then normal and most of those are running, in my opinion, to high for winter fishing. the fish tend to like the mellower water this time of year. it hasnt fished as well as normal since the water has been higher but this section seems to be the best option right now

To cold

I went out to strip some streamers and although i felt warm enough the temps apparently were not, including the water itself. i made the long walk downstream tredging thru the untouched snow getting my cardio in. different go down as far as i had planned cause the snow wore me out.  jumped in and fished up a few runs before i got not only tired of  having to deice my leader and about the 1st 10ft of fly line, but also that my streamer even fresh out of the water from putting in work and my fly was still frozen. fuck that! i fished about 30 minutes or so before just getting out, tredging thru the snow back to my jeep and going home. didnt move a fish but winter always makes for good photos

 

A little more productive

Today was a little more productive, we moved a good amount of fish and landed a few as well. matt landed the biggest fish of the day. the weather was real nice and the water looked good
