1st big bug hatch of the year

Salmon flies have never been overly appealing to me, unlike a cicada, but it was cool to finally catch them on some local waters. they are fun to take photos of and we caught a few fish on them as well.

Chucking streamers

 myself and matt ventured out at 1st light loaded with streamers. fished a nice chunk of water and although we moved a good number of fish the catch total was small. thats alright cause the weather was good and the company was nice.

Ice off

 I had driven past the lake 3 of the past 4 weeks and due to ice it was still not fishable. me and matt drove over and caught it about right this time. headed over to one of my favorite bays but it fished like shit, although i did pull a cuttie on a mouse. we ended up driving over to the other side of the lake and making a long walk in. the 1st hour or so in the new location started off slow but it eventually picked up and we caught fish on streamers, leeches and chironomids. the weather was a bit goofy/springish. waters were glass, then the winds picked up, then it started raining, then hail, then sun and no wind. the dya finished off with high winds and cold.

3 different spots

Logun came over and 3 of us headed over to strawberry res. but didnt find much fishable water yet and what we did find was littered with people. after a couple hours of shit we drive over to lake canyon and that was a shit show as well. never seen it so busy, windier then hell and 1 small fish between us. we decided  to try our luck on some moving water. it certainly fished better but still a little slow.

Its been a couple years

 but i finally got into some more wipers. i had forgotten how strong they are. kept my limit to make some fish tacos.

Option #3

Drove a couple hours away to check out ice of on the berry, it was still pretty unfishable. i then drove over to another lake and it was even more locked up. i then decided just to head back towards home and try and find a free spot on the river somewhere. as luck would have it the spot on the river i was hoping for was still open so i jumped in. it fished pretty well and the weather was really nice

A change of pace

got out on a local small stream and thru a purple haze the whole time. wasnt real confident in my fly selction for the season but i was determined to stick with it. had only 1 rise but it was still cool to throw a dry again
