The Sarge does me Proud Again

Myself and a friend of mine headed over to some of his home waters to fling on a piece that i only fished once a few years back but have fond memories of. we got off to a late start but it was all good as the top water stuff generally doesn't seem to start picking up till the sun comes up anyway. we got to the river at about 9:30 and unfortunately so did another guy as we were gearing up. we were hoping he would just go somewhere else since we were already parked at that spot but we were not so lucky. we quickly finished and the proceeded to hike down stream a couple of miles. we were hoping that he would fish up since we were going down but not sure if he did or not since about half way of fishing back up the fish kind of gave us the finger, almost as if someone had already fished over them. anyway, once we started fishing up the fish were pretty cooperative with chris chucking some sort of stone/hopper pattern and myself throwing a sgt. slaughter cicada. once again the sarge was in solid form, nailing fish after fish. the weather was not quite what i was expecting with it being over cast and somewhat cool out, with a slight sprinkle from time to time. i was hoping to get some shots of some cicadas but neither heard or saw any. it was a good mixture of cutts and browns with chris also catching 1 rainbow. we didn't get into any of the bigger fish in there but it was still a blast with the fish ranging from 7-17 inches.

The Lipper and the Toothy One

Wanted to get on the lake before the boaters tore the place up. got alanna up early and dropped her off at daycare, then headed to the lake. fished a cove i hadn't fished before and right off the bat i landed a small smallie. within a half hour of that i released my first tiger musky of the year. unfortunately that was all the catching that i did this morning. i did hook into another, i assume musky due to the weight that i felt, but one quick shake and it was off. had a couple more follows and that was all she wrote. i did land a beer can and after i set the hook i thought this fish is a slug but kept waiting for it to realize it was hooked and take off, but it's funny how a can will not do that. the deer flies were out in force but other then that i chalked it up to a pretty good day.

Stinkn' Droppers

Myself and Dbone probably should've fished droppers below our dries to start with, cause once we did the fishing certainly picked up. i can't guarentee that it would've made a difference for that time of morning but i am guessing so. i caught a few on a dry (hoppers, cicada and a beetle), but other then that, top side was slow. i believe dbone got all his on the dropper. the droppers were just a variety of bead headed nymphs. i forgot my camera so dbone took most of the pics. not sure if the fishing was slow cause of our fly choices or, more then likely, due to the storm the night/early morning before we fished.

Sgt. Slaughter and Friends

Got up at 2:20 in the morning to meet up with jake to make our trek north.we got up extra early cause the plan was to hike down the canyon about 4 miles and fish our way up. we got to the river at 5:30 got rigged up and started our jaunt. i wanted to just hike all the way down without stops but it sure is tough passing up good looking water. we moved a few fish on streamers but once we got down as far as we cared to bush wack, we switched to dries. by the time we got to our starting point the fish were already looking top side. the first couple of hours was lights out with me and jake switching out after each fish. seems like once it started to get hot out that the fishing kind of took a shit on us with just a few scattered fish here and there. both of us ended up with a the trifecta of trout. cutties, browns and brooks. i mostly fish with a sgt slaughter in cicada colors and eventually jake switched to one as well. it did some damage on the fish. the highlight of the day were the few really nice cutts that i caught. nice sized and beautifully colored. by the time we had got back to the truck we had spent about 12 hours on the water and we were wore the hell out. it was new water for the both of us and i look forward to fishing it again.
