We drove elsewhere for a change of pace to what used to be, hasnt fished overly well in the last few years, a favorite fall creek for me. i still fish it a few times a year but it doesnt seem to be what it was a few years ago. anyway, we drove up and fished the upper reaches of it and the beavers have wrecked havoc with dam after dam. even crazier that we only saw 1 fish that was at least 16". may come a time where it becomes a once every few years type of stream. bummer

Called it early
We were the 1st ones there and had walked down just a bit to start but within an hour and a half or so we got high holed. when i popped around the bend 2 dudes and a chick were standing there fishing and they asked if we were heading up which i said yes to but the dude insisted they would go up and start a little higher up, fuck tard! so we caught up to them quickly and as we took a wide detour to get considerably around them, they quickly got out and started to bolt upstream, appearing to try and stay above us, which really pissed us off and so matt laid into the dude and by the time we got back to the truck and tried to find some good water lower, there people everywhere. so we just called it a day. people have no river etiquette. what a waste of a drive but we did get into a couple fish at least.

The upper stretches

Good to get out
Hooked up with matt bright and early monday morning. i had taken it off in conjunction with a weeks worth of vacation that i took. we headed in that direction and luckily arrived before any of the riff raff did. the temps were actually a bit chilly in the morning but once the sun started coming up it was all good. the 1st section of river fished very poorly but the upper sections proved to be much better with green drakes, beetles, ants and an attractor. it really turned on in the last couple hours before we called it a day.

Kept it close
Didnt feel like a longer drive to fish so i just stayed local and threw some streamers. the water was good, the weather was good and i did get into a handful of fish, nothing big but a few decent fish

Another try
I went back to a small stream that the flows had dropped quite a bit, but i wanted to see if the green drakes were coming off yet. i didnt hardly see any bugs, including cicadas which i was also hoping to find coming off but none of those either. the flows were actually a little better then i was expecting and the weather was good but only managed 2 real small fish.

Back to an old favorite
We headed out at o'dark thirty and got to the river just after sun up. we fished a usual stretch and although it started off really slow even though lots of fish were rising, i ended up trying an ant and quickly landed 2 fish. once we got to the top of the run the risers stepped up there game as we started seeing tons of swamped green drakes floating by. it almost seemed that once so many drakes were floating by things didnt fair overly well for us. we continued to get into fish but not like we expected with all the heads. we got into some good fish and eventually we decided to drive down to a lower stretch but there was a guide there with 2 clients and they were getting ready to get in. we drove down further to try some new water and it fished great for small fish, meaning 6-13 inchers. what a difference in sections. aside from the wind the weather was nice
