A drop in flows

A piece of water had a drop in flows that made it a little more fishable. it was still high and a work out to wade but it was fishable. didnt see a whole lot of action, saw a few, including a couple solid fish but only landed 2 of the average kind. was nice throwing meat on moving water again while enduring a run off hiatus from the rivers

A trip to the lake

Its ice off time. we drove out to the lake after hearing some positive reports. most of it is thawed off but there was some coves that still a good amount of ice. the fishing was pretty damn good, in fact never had a better day out there before and certainly not on streamers at ice off. usually ice off works better nymphing for me but id much rather throw streamers so it worked out quite well. only bummer is out of all the fish we caught there was nothing over 20", everything pretty much was the standard 18-19 " size. it was windy but the weather was still good, till we started walking out. twas a killer day 

Dropped flows

Fortunately a section of river opened up enough to fish so i took a drive to check it out. it poured down rain the whole drive there till i was about a mile out then i didnt see rain till i was done fishing and almost back to my jeep, then it rained the whole way home. the water was pretty good but the fishing was slow. moved around 8 fish, couple of above average fish but only landed 1 average fish. good to get out and walk a river again since our rivers have been flooding for awhile now

Scouting Run

Headed over to one of our more local lakes to see if ice off had begun yet. nope, she was still all locked up. you could see that the shoreline in some spots were thinking about it but it was still all iced over. i went and looked at the spill way and some of the upper creek. saw some decent fish and a bunch of smaller risers. i threw a small streamer to start with but no action. decided to switch to a bobber (disgusting word) and nymph type shit. caught a little brookie on a balance leech. i love the drive up there cause once you get off the hwy there usually some good wildlife action to see. on this drive there was a bald eagle right off the road snacking on some dead critter then i saw a big Tom strutting his stuff for the ladies

Something different

Headed out with Matt and Logun to a place i dont fish but maybe once, twice a year, just not a fan of nymphing. the weather was decent but the temps were, as expected, chilly as fuck in the morning but then slowly started to warm up. it wasnt an overally productive day as far as numbers but some big fish were landed, as well as a few small ones. Logun ended the day with a day maker, a rainbow that was pushing 30 and girthy as all get out.

Out and About

Took a drive to see what kind of water i could find. found a little stretch that was in fishable shape. it was cold as shit in the morning but did eventually try and warm up. the fishing was actually pretty decent during the 1st half of the morning with a handful of fish and missed 3 banger fish. i got up to a certain point and it kind of died down but i still did manage a couple more fish. it was not a wasted morning

 

Springish

We are starting to see/feel glimpses of spring coming and the fishing seems to be following suit. i found some fishable water which was fortunate since most everything is blown out.  the morning was cold but i was sweating by the time i got back to the jeep. the fishing started off good but kind of fizzeled towards the end, almost like someone jumped ahead of me but i still caught a couple so im sure it was just the way it goes sometimes. an enjoyable morning.
