Something a little different

Hit a different section of the river that i havent paid much attention to this year. the flows, of course, are still up but the fishing was decent for awhile till it just shut off. was gonna keep goinmg up but decided to call it when i did. got into a few fish so it wasnt a total wasted effort. 

Super low water

I hate when water is that low but weve been having so much higher water in the usual areas we fish that it was a welcome break on the hips. although the water was low there were still some willing fish. was an enjoyable morning with matt but he had to bounce so i drove downstream aways and fished a section down there. the water was also low but because of a couple streams coming in it was a tad higher then the 1st section i fished. it didnt produce as well down there but i still moved a few.

Warmer weather

 Its been nice and toasty around these parts, for January at least, for the last week, almost spring like. unfortunately it seems to have brought the flows up some but we were still able to find a few fish. 

Got into a couple lookers

 Me and matt fished our way upstream to a target destination that has always, at least in the last dozen years or so that ive fished up to that point, has always been a big deep slower hole, but for the 1st time i saw it entirely filled in. we did however get into a good amount of fish including a couple decent ones and 1 really big one that my hook came out of about a foot from being in the net. matt got a real good look and figures it was 25-26", a heartbreaker for sure. all in all it was a pretty nice day to get out. 

Starting to see a few fish

 Its still not productive out but we are starting to see a few fish moving around here and there. we landed a couple each, nothing to write home about but enjoyable anyway.

On the books for the new year

Went out for a few hours the other day and although the water was still higher then i prefer this time of year, the weather was nice and snowy, which i dig. it wasnt overly good fishing but i did move a handful of fish and landed my 1st couple of 2024, so i am on the books.

 

An enjoyable last day

...of the year. went up river aways and threw some meat. the water was really low so there was more walking then fishing. just had to find the deeper runs/holes. i fished upstream 2hrs worth and managed to land a few nicely colored up fish. all standard sized fish but still holding great color. i was back at my jeep by 1/4 to 9 so i thought i would take a gander at some of the water a bit lower. there was no one parked where i wanted to fish. the water on this section is up quite aways so a bit tougher for winter fishing in my opinion. fished a very short piece and moved a few fish including 1 very large fish. landed 1 that had nice color
