December continues to be a shit month for chuckin meat. every once in awhile ill pick up a few fish in December but so far its been exceptionally shitty and could be due to the uncharacteristically high waters for this time of year. who knows? a good sunrise and some fog are always worth some photos though
We took the drive out to the big lake with hopes of a much better day then the last time we were there. once again it was very foggy in the morning which always makes for some cool shots. we started off in one of my favorite fingers but the fishing was pretty uneventful, 1 or 2 small fish each. the water is the highest that ive seen out there in a minute so maybe that affected the fishing, who knows. after a few hours we drove over to a favorite bay and walked that shoreline for aways and back with miuch better results. even though not many and nothing but the typical cutts out there, we did get into a few handfuls including a couple doubles. turned out to be a decent day all in all
Took a day trip out that way in search of some nice trout. it was a nymphing kind of day but the day started off rather slow. in the 1st couple of hours between the 2 of us we landed a couple real small rainbows and matt a sucker. the 2nd half of the day was a lot more eventful but unfortunately the 2nd half of the day only produced a few small trout, 2 carp and about 20 suckers. i dont fish out there much but never heard of or seen a day filled with almost nothing but suckers. they sure were digging a black balance leech. the weather was great but the suckers were certainly not worth the drive.
Hit the berry for a few hours but unfortunately nothing to show for it. definitely one of the worst days I've had out there. we got into a couple smaller fish but nothing of note. the best part of the day was some cool fog photos in the morning
Only about 2 weeks left till the spawn truly gets going so its almost time to give these lovely creatures a brake till the spawn is over. i checked flows late afternoon yesterday and they looked pretty decent. went out this morning and the flows had dropped again. the river is super small but we were there so we fished anyway. not much fish activity but we did get into a couple of real nice fish. other then that the morning kind of sucked in regards to seeing fish.
as we arrived at the river we could see that the water came down a little again and unfortunately cleared up a bit as well. low and clear is not a good combo and between the 2 of us, matt caught 1 small rainbow. the end
Went out and took a walk along the river to see how things were looking. the water was still low but had come up a little since the last time i fished this section but this time instead of real clear it had a greenish hue to it and it looked pretty good. fished my way up throwing streamers. switched up a few times with white being the winning flavor. saw a good amount of fish, including some dark fish but none of the really orange/buttery goodness though. landed a couple
