Top to Bottom

Top to bottom it was a good day. an olive streamer a purple haze and a green drake pattern all produced quite well. i keep mixing those around all day and it never slowed down. i had planned on hitting the lake but glad i decided on the river instead. the caddis were thick and i found out there are cicadas there. some how i never knew, guess i hadn't fished it much this time of year or something.

It Was an Adventure

So we took a gamble on a high elevation lake since our snow fall wasn't much this year. once we got to the trailhead we realized that we were in trouble. there was still way to much snow and we figured that the lake was probably still frozen, so there was no sense in making that hike. we decided to drive to one of the lower elevation lakes figuring we'd be good there. the dirt road to the trailhead was about 8 miles. at about 7 miles we got stuck in some snow that was still on the road. after about an hour and a half we were free and soon ran into another patch of snow. instead of potentially getting stuck again we chose to hike to the lake from there. the hike took us 2 and a half hours and once we finally made it to the top where the lake is, it was still frozen, except for one small chunk of open water at the outlet. that was quite a hike to be disappointed like that, but that the chance you take at those elevations in early june. well since we hiked all that way we weren't about to let that little patch of open water go to waste. we fished for roughly 45 minutes and i ended up with the only fish, a tiger trout of about 14 inches. i had only fished that lake once and that was a couple of falls ago and aside from 1 cutthroat it was all brookies so that tiger caught me by surprise. anyway after our handful of casts we made our way back to the jeep. and ended the day with a couple of beers and a fat boy burger. our gamble did not quite pay off but will try it again in a few weeks.

A Big Bug Kind of Day

It was a day filled with bugs, big bugs, medium bugs and little bugs. the cicadas were extremely thick, the caddis were even thicker, the salmon flies were off the chain and the skwalas or goldens, not sure which even made a showing. my main purpose on the day was to hopefully capture some salmon flies emerging from their shucks. that didn't happen but just as good i got a bunch of shots of cicadas doing the same. it was more bugs then i had ever seen at one time. unfortunately the fishing was not so good. chris did alright but i think i actually spent more time looking for and taking pics of bugs. what an awesome big bug day.

Another Slow Day

The water looked great, a tad high but still looked great. well apparently the fish just weren't feeling it, cause they just didn't really show up. in a river full of big fish we only mustered a handful of small fish. actually dbone did finally catch a decent one, but the fishing was pretty disappointing and uncharacteristic. there were tons of caddis out but not a single riser. i'd be willing to bet that if we were nymphing we would have done a bit better

Will Have to Wait Till The Water Subsides

Theres been a few times that i have fished this section when the flows have been up a bit and it has never fished well at those times and today was no different. i got one but other then that we didn't even hardly move anything

A Short Minute

Went out for a couple of hours to throw mice but moved nothing so switched to a streamer and got into a few fish.
