A Birthday Outing

Got invited to fish on my birthday so of course i said yes. i picked up corey and dave at 7am and by 10am we were making the hike to our starting point. the bigger dries really did not seem to be putting out like they should've so we went smaller and that seemed to help out a bunch. we fished our way up this beautiful meadow stream for a number of hours until early evening was making it's presence felt and at that time we fished our way back down stream throwing some small type streamers. on the way down we picked up some pretty nice cutts including one that i caught that when i landed it, it had not only my streamer in the corner of it's mouth but a stonefly nymph sitting right on it's tongue and about a 4"

sculpin lodged in it's throat. that's the first time i've caught a fish with other fish in it's mouth. pretty cool to see. it was dusk by the time we got through the canyon and we alll switched to mice. none of us got anything with mice but we did move and hit some fish with them. it was pretty dark by the time i was bushwacking my way off the river and to my jeep and while doing so i snapped the tip section of my rod while working my way through the thick shit. although that sucked the day ended up being pretty good. finally made it home at almost 1am.

Old but New

Was able to fish with corey kruitbosch after about a year and a half. we used to fish together quite a bit but between his job and me being out of the country for a year it just wasn't happening. we got off to a pretty late start and when we arrived at the water there were quite a few anglers. the 2 spots i wanted to focus on already had anglers in them so we went lower. as soon as we parked a storm came in and it started dumping rain and continued to rain for about an hour. the only good thing about it was short;y after the rains started we could see car driving away. we started with streamers and managed a few between us. after the rains stopped we saw a few risers so we went top side which also produced some nicer fish. later in the afternoon we had a few hints of sun and the rains completely stopped. in the last couple of hours we were there we switched to mice and although we didn't hook anything on them it was exciting to see some of the beastly explosions on those mice. it was a long, cold and enjoyable day.

Small Stream Lovin'

Made my yearly jaunt to the back side of the res. again. i only make it back there once a year cause as much as the stream is fun to fish. the bush wacking is just not worth the small trout more then once a year. the water was great and the fish very receptive to a small hopper but it seemed more over grown then i remember. got on the trail at 8:15 this morning and arrived back at the jeep about 7hrs later. extremely wore out and sore but it was a very enjoyable day.

Mountain Weather

Took my step-son up to a higher elevation lake for some brookies and to try and de-virginize his spin rod. we were only on the lake for about an hour before the weather got the best of us. we were dealing with the rain but the hail, thunder and especially the lightning put a quick end to our already un productive day. we'll get em' next time.

Beetle Mania

Was thinking that being middle of the week there would be few people around the river. don't these damn people work?! go to a point in the river where it was tuber after tuber running right through good water. saw fish rising right off the bat in the slow water, i probably should've put something small on but instead i went hopper with a beetle trailer. got no looks so i probably just scared the shit out of them, i kept seeing them race down and by me. it wasn't till i got up quite aways before i started getting looks. the beetle was getting 95% of the attention, i think i only had 2 hits on a hopper all day. for awhile i switched up to a beetle with an ant and it was still the beetle getting some lovin'. there was a long lull in the fish activity but towards the ned of the day when i hit some nice pocket water it started heating up for me,
