Back on the drakes

Drove back over hoping to find some green drakes, only saw a few buzzing around. didnt get to the water till around 1030ish after i took austin to work. the fishing was incredibly slow till around noonish which was about the time the temps started to warm up. i came acrossed this slightly ripply flat and saw a couple of risers. i managed to pull a few fish out of the run including one that was one of my best fish out of the river, to date. quite a speciman with bright orange spots. its only downfall was a fucked up maxillary bone. still a gorgeous fish none the less. it wasnt long after that run that i ran into someone above me fishing so i bounced.

Run off

...has finally started to wind down. the flows are still up a little in some sections of river but in some sections the flows have come down to much for my liking. i went out to chuck a streamer or 2 to change it up the section i drove to had dropped much lower then i prefer but i still managed to move a few fish and  muster a couple of smaller fish. most of the deeper holes are now filled in as well. other then the mosquitos it was still a nice evening out

Flows came down more

...to a level that was lower then id prefer. the water was a lot better the week before but of course i still got some flies wet. fished 2 different sections this time but only mustered 4 fish, but one of them was a rainbow this time. the weather was nice and toasty so the water sure felt good. caught them all on green drakes but did have a couple misses on a cicada.

In search of green drakes

This time i ventured out in search of green drakes instead of cicadas but i found nothing of the sort. the water was still a little high, but fishable. i did land the only fish i saw and with the higher flows it was kind of a circus when the good sized fish got in the current and i had to scramble back acrossed the river again. that was pretty cool but i struggled with it 1st thing in the morning, cold and my back stiff as hell, but pretty cool none the less. that proved to be the only fish i saw and i dont recall seeing any drakes. as i was done fishing i decided to cop a squat on the river bank just to see what i could see as far as bugs go, since there were some caddis coming off. i saw lots of caddis and a good number of small stones in the mating process. i dig the bugs

Looking for cicadas

Took a drive to look for some cicadas and do a little fishing. the area seemed void of cicadas except one or two that i heard in the trees but could not find. started with cicadas on the creek but soon switched to green drakes since there was some coming off. didnt muster many fish but i landed a few including one stud brown that was well over the standard size. no cutties or brookies surprisingly.

So peaceful

Austin wanted me to take him fishing  and preferred the big res so we got on the road around 0600. it was so void of people in the middle of the week it seemed so amazingly peaceful. wasnt sure what to expect in the way of fishing since i never fish it in june and the lake was fuller then ive ever seen it. between the 2 of us we had a handful of nces but austin mustered the only fish. i was stoked for him since he never fishes.

Once a year outing

Usually this spot is an early Jun venture and it usually only happens once a year, unless there is still much run off during the 1st week of Jun, then we dont get to to fish it at all. i say once a year cause its on some LDS land that matt has permission on so we dont get much opportunity to fish it and that all depends on whether they have youth groups or other shit going on at the time. its a special place and has become one of my favorites. bows, cuttbows, cutts, browns and an occasional brook trout. swim in this creek with 15" being pretty standard. lots of overhanging shit and no shortage of bow&arrow casting to be had. the weather was pretty good and according to one of the elders we ran into up there said the run off had just come to an end so we seemed to have caught it just right. we didnt see miuch in the way of any hatches but there were some stones crawling around and a few bugs flying but nothing major. the fishing was a bit slower then normal and we didnt see any of the big fish in there but we came away with a nice handful of fish landed.
