Small Streamin it

Ventured south to throw some streamers on some small water. started and finished with a tan 'el sculpito'. it killed it today, lots of fish to be had. the weather was great for the most part but as i wrapped up my fishing the winds started to pick up and the clouds moved in . today was a solid day for sure.

Surprisingly Slow

The rivers had come back down and the temp's were in the 50's, i thought this is going to be a killer day. well suprisingly the fishing sucked. we did manage a few fish, which only one was of good size. we missed a few good ones but that's the way it almost always seems to go.

Spring is in the Air

With temp's pushing 60 degrees it certainly had a spring feel to it. once me and scott reached the canyon the weather definately made it feel like spring. when we should up the sun was out and the wind was absent. as soon as we got rigged up the clouds came rolling in and the wind picked up, then came the snows. this was the weather trend all day, sunny, warm, windy, cold, snowy and back and forth. on top of the weather changes the fishing wasn't that great and the fish were a bit on the smaller size. we got to see some new water as we ventured up farther then we had before and even came acrossed a side pond that had some good sized fish in it.

Tres Farmers

Man we sucked yesterday! it was one of those days where we could hardly keep a fish pinned no matter what size of fish, especially me and matt. yesterday presented so many opportunities for fish and a good share of big fish. most of the fish hooked by the 3 of us were farmed and it got agonizing to watch. the rain presented itself again today and all day it was on us. even though we missed a lot, it was a good day with lots of fish moved.

A Taste of Home

It's been an aweful long time since i stood in a river while being poured on. it reminded me of growing up in washington. the day actually started out overcast but quite nice then about half way through the day it started to rain. it was kind of nice actually. between myself and the fish we failed to meet face to face on numerous occasions but i did manage to meet a few including a fat, healthy and strong 20" cutt-bow. it's the first cuut-bow i've seen out of there and was a nice surprise. i also took a few browns and 1 cuttie that was two-tone, and that looked like it might of been from infection from a wound. an el guapo and an el sculpito were on point today.

Korkers Devils Canyon Boots......Review

Korkers were good enough to replace my blown out chromes for a new pair of devils canyon boots. i put a few miles on them today and just like the other korkers i've owned, they were light weight and very comfortable. one thing that seemed different from previous korker models is the material used to construct the boot. i really like the elastic type material on the back of the boot, made it easier to get my foot in. the only thing i didn't like is that there is no d-ring for gravel guards so the gravel guards, if hitched, have to be hitched to the boa lace. these seem like a definate upgrade in boot and don't see myself spending money on another pair of simms boot anymore.

PROS- Light weight
          - elastic makes boot easy to slip on and off
          - very comfortable
          - seem more durable then previous models

CONS- No D-ring for gravel guards

A Day With the Boys

Hooked up with dbone and matt at an undisclosed location on the

river. the temp's were a bit frigid early on but then warmed up nicely. it was a streamer filled day with a good amount of fish to be had by all.

G4 Boa Boots - Review

Today was the first day on the water with my new G4 boa boots and my first impression was......stiff and that they look like moon boots. now i'm hoping that they will just need some break in time but i don't ever recall owning a pair of boots that required some miles before they became comfortable. anyway one of the things i did like right off the bat was how easy it was to get my foot in, basically no hands required. not sure if it's cause of the new design or not but it was effortless. as i walked around i couldn't help make the comparison to skiing/snowboarding. when it comes to stiffness and flexibility, i compared my G4's to ski boots and my korkers to snowboard boots. maybe it wasn't quite that drastic but similar. the G4's are a lot stiffer and heavier. as the day progressed and a few miles were put on them i kind of got used to them but i don't think they actually started to break in, way to early for that. on the plus side of being stiff is that it seems that ankle support would an improvement. another thing that i really like is that the d-ring that the gravel guards hook to sit higher on the boot making it a much less stretch to connect the gravel guards. i got the simms cause i need a boot that can handle all the time i put on the water. simms meet that demand. i love my korkers but they just don't hold up to all the abuse that i dish out so adding these G4's to my foot wear will help me prolong the life of my korkers.  another thing i should mention is that i put the simms hardbite studds in my boots and if you place the studs in all the designated areas for them then you'll have to buy 2 packs of them cause 1 pack only covers about a boot and a half.
so, my assessment would be that overall it is a good boot but nothing special and i guess for around $230 i would expect a bit more.

PROS - Easy to slip on and off
           - Better ankle support then my korkers
           - Better D-ring placement
           - Simms so they will be rugged

CONS - Ugly (moon boot look)
            - Overly stiff
            - Pricey ($230ish)
