Met up with matt bright and early to check out a different stretch of water. the water was still a little low but this stretch seems to have more fishable water during low times. we fished about 3/4 the way upstream towards are out point before we ran into someone fishing above us. the fishing had been slow so we took no issue with calling it a day and walking the trail the rest of the way out. matt did land a really nice fish but overall the fishing was really slow
irrigation is supposed to be cut off next week on our local stuff, but it seems here lately, that until then they are gonna jack with the flows a bit. the water dropped to less then my comfortable CFS, meaning for me it was lower then i prefer to fish it. i did fish for a couple hours in the morning just to see. as i expected, not much going on. i did manage 1 decent female that seemed full of eggs
they mustve released a bit of the irrigation water cause the flows came up about 50cfs and with that brought some color to the river. fishable color but a bit more then my liking. i did manage manage to get into a few fish and missed one really big fish but landed a couple decent ones.
With great anticipation based on what we'd seen this summer, we expected to go out and throw streamers at big colored up browns but we ended up highly disappointed. the fish werent there, the size wasnt there, therefore the color wasnt there either. we actually did move some colored up fish but it was few and far between and nothing really big. i did muster a nice 21" brown right of the bat and i did finally start getting into more fish when i switched to a pink hopper but those fish ranged from 3-12" so definately not what i was looking for. the weather was great but not sure what to say about that outing besides that it was good to be out.
