And way overdue. it's sad that a week seems like such a long time not to fish, but it does, at least for me. rolled out of bed around 11am this morning and headed to dredge thru some water. the weather was perfect but there was still quite a bit of ice on the water so i didn't have a full selection of holes. i only fished for 3hrs but managed to move a few fish and land 1. could've been better, could've been worse.

Heating Up
Yesterday was a much improved day from the norm so far. the fish were a lot more active today even though the temp's. were'nt any warmer then they have been for the last couple of weeks, high 30's. i never fish orange but the entire day i threw an orange/white 'el guapo' at em' and landed 6 or 7 fish, which is a pretty good day for me this time of year. it was numbing cold till about 1ish then it finally got comfortable. even the bitter cold temp's. in the A.M. didn't seem to deter the fish, they were still willing to attack a streamer.

C'mon Utah Let's End This
The Utah Legislative Session begins on January 27th and the Utah Stream Access Coalition is bringing their compromise legislation to the Capitol in the form of HB37. Can USAC and their 3,300+ members restore the constitutional right access to 3,200 miles of river to the public? They’re going to give it all they’ve got but they can really use your help.
IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE 400,000 UTAH FISHING LICENSE HOLDERS:
Contact your legislators and the Governor, he's the one pictured above fly fishing on the Green...go figure.
IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE OF UTAH -
Contact the office of Governor, his chief legal counsel, his senior environmental advisor and tell them to SUPPORT HB37!
Legal Counsel: Jacey Skinner -jskinner@utah.gov - 801 538-1645
Sr. Environmental Adviser: Alan Matheson - amatheson@utah.gov - 801-538-1574
This issue effects all the recreational users of Utah's public waters and could set a bad precedent for other access fights throughout the country.

Poor Pooch
Took saxon to the river again since the weather was pleasant. I threw meat of course and ended up with a couple of fish landed, lost a couple and had a few hits. i fished up further then i had intended to. on the way back, saxon was walking the shoreline and i heard the jingle of steel and then a whole lot of yelping. at first when i saw that saxon seemed hung up on something i though he had walked into some barbed wire debris but quickly realized that he had stepped on a trap. not sure which critter it was intended for but it bit saxon. although it seemed like longer, it took me a few seconds to figure out how to open it. i was panicked with saxon crying and trying like hell to get out of it. surprisingly it didn't take him long to be walking and running like nothing had happened. i am keeping my eye on it and so far everything seems fine with his foot.

Changing it up
For some godly reason i had a desire to nymph some smaller water today. was thinking stones but as luck would have it a multitude of nymphs worked. the water was low but the weather was superb. no wind, blue skies and warm temps. couldn't ask for a better day, weather wise. i nymphed up a variety pack today.....browns, whities and a rainbow. i came up to this one hole and happened to look around and saw something perched in a tree. i soon noticed that it was a porcupine. i decided to go climb that tree and try and get some photos of the critter. got a few shots then proceeded to continue upstream. the fishing wasn't spectacular and the fish were small but it was fun just the same.

Moving Day
The weather was great today and the fish seemed to notice. i didn't catch shit other then a dink of a brown but it was good to see that many fish for a beautiful mid January day. took a break to turn over some rocks and found the largest salmonfly nymph i've personally ever seen.

Streamers....My Favorites and Most Fished
I was reading a post from the gink and gasoline guys on their blog titled....13 Proven Streamer Patterns for Trout....which is nothing more then a list of streamers that they fish and that work for them. it had me thinking about my favorite streamers and ones that fish really well for me. most of the patterns i fish are my own ties so are not known buy anybody except those that fish with me on a regular basis. the scuba steve is a pattern from my friend joe willauer over at www.evoanglers.com. Here is my list of my favorite streamers that i throw on a regular basis, some of which i don't have a name for. i will add that most of my streamers are at least 3 inches but i generally small smaller versions on small streams, but not always.

Fucking Wind
It was absolutely brutal today so i didn't fish as long as i had planned. the temp's were pretty condusive for streamers and i managed a couple, but it is real tough to fish in a strong wind. i also forgot my camera today so i only had my phone so the pics suck more then normal.
